Mabley Handler Interior Design is proud to have participated in Hamptons Cottages & Gardens Idea House project. We designed the Media Room/Den in the the 2004 Idea House, the Outdoor Dining Terrace in the 2005 Idea House, and the Great Room and the Master Bathroom in the 2006 Idea House. We were also the design directors of the 2006 Idea House, a role that saw us work hand-in-hand with the entire staff of Hamptons Cottages & Gardens magazine, Richard Gherardi of Sand Dollar Development, and 20 top and up-and-coming designers.
For us, the HC&G Idea House is not only about the latest interior design ideas and building concepts, it's about collaborating on a project that is reflective of and sensitive to the environment it resides in. It's about a showhouse that flows from room to room, allowing each designer to make their individual statements, yet doing so collectively in a house that clearly belongs in the Hamptons. As the Southampton Press mentioned, "The Hamptons Cottages & Gardens magazine Idea House has Austin Handler and Jennifer Mabley of Mabley Handler Interior Design in Water Mill acting as design directors for the project...Significantly, a fair number of the designers involved in the 2006 house both live and work on the East End, and their involvement reflects an awareness of place."
Our work on the HC&G Idea Houses (and for our clients) has been, above all, mindful of the area that we are in. We live in the Hamptons, we summer in the Hamptons, and the homes we design and decorate out here (our own house included!) are reflective of that. And for that reason, we look forward to seeing what next year's HC&G Idea House has to offer the Hamptons!
